Redesign of the recreation area inside an apartment complex. A neglected site in a socially disadvantaged environment, this location was designed with greater transparency to be more inviting. Previously the area had mostly been visited by teenagers and petty criminals. Some residents and older people, especially senior citizens, felt threatened and stayed away. To gain more visibility the overgrown vegetation was reduced and in some cases entirely substituted. Furthermore, the width and the layout of the paths were modified to reduce or eliminate dark corners. A soccer field, playground, new lawn and furniture were introduced for active and passive recreation.
